Why should I choose the Ella Baché College of Skin and Beauty Therapy?

We’ve been teaching skincare and beauty therapy since 1963, which means you’ll be joining thousands of our graduates who are working at all levels in the industry all over the world. It’s difficult to imagine a more experienced network of educators, industry specialists, therapists and employers.

Our philosophy is that “no two skins are alike”, so throughout your studies, we'll teach you all there is to know about individual skin types and the vast array of quality products available for them. You’ll be immersed in all aspects of skin care and beauty therapy including the philosophy behind it, skin diagnosis and how different products work with your skin.

Is there a minimum age for entry to your courses? You must be at least 16 when you start your course.

Is there a maximum age for entry to your courses? No. We have had students in their late 50’s.

What is the cost?The cost for each course varies. Please contact us and speak with our Student Liaison or one of our Educators on 1300 856 166. Fees can be paid upfront or by installments. Discounts are also available for early payments.

 What services are available at the college? There are a variety of student services available to support you during your studies including a library, computers and internet access, as well as learning support and counseling assistance. All our staff members are here to help you achieve your full potential.

Can I get a part-time job while studying? Yes. In fact we encourage it and may even be able to help you find something that will suit you and your studies. Over half of our students get part-time work during the course, because they study 3 days a week.

What kind of job will I get after I graduate? Once you’ve finished your course with us you’ll not only be highly sought after as an Ella Baché College graduate, you’ll also discover a world full of exciting career opportunities both in Australia and overseas.

What is included in my course fees? Tuition fees include all your course materials, Product Guide, student ID and Concession Cards for public transport. As part of your course you’ll also receive:

  •      Academic and personal counseling

Can I get a loan for my fees? We have strategic partnerships with the NAB to ensure that orgainsing a loan is as painless as possible. Please contact us and we can help make your loan application easier and faster!

What qualification will I get when I finish? Designed to embrace Edith Hallas’ passion for the pursuit of skincare and beauty therapy knowledge and Ella Baché’s commitment to industry excellence, The Ella Baché College of Skin and Beauty Therapy is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and is nationally recognised and accredited. This ensures our graduates that their qualification is recognised throughout Australia. Our students are also provided with the opportunity to receive international accreditation from the International Therapies Examination Council (ITEC); this is a leading UK based accreditation body.

Do I need an UAI mark to be able to apply? No.

Are there any requirements for entry into the courses? First of all you’ll need to have completed your School Certificate and be at least 16 years old when your course starts. You’ll also need to get a Senior First Aid Certificate or a Level 2 in First Aid in the Workplace before you can start your studies. Having a first aid qualification is a valuable asset for life and it’s essential if you’re going to be working in areas involving other people’s health and wellbeing.

How and when do I need to apply? We run courses throughout the year and you can apply at any time; there is no application deadline. The best thing to do is come in for our next Open Day or for an interview with our student liaison or one of our educators. A non refundable $1 000 deposit will be required with your application to secure your place in the course.

Early Bird discounts: We offer an early bird discount for people who wish to pay the full diploma course fees 2 months prior to course commencement.

Are there scholarships available? Yes. The Edith Hallas Scholarship is dedicated to the woman who in 1954 brought Ella Baché to Australia. Being passionate about skin and beauty therapy and believing that everyone should have the opportunity to pursue their dreams, she opened the first Ella Baché College in 1963.

The Scholarship is available to all current secondary students in NSW. To be eligible you need to be over 16 years at the time of course commencement and be an Australian citizen or resident. Valued at $14,000 the Scholarship is for the February intake for our Diploma in Beauty Therapy - the highest qualification in the industry.

Are there any additional costs apart from course fees? Some students purchase an additional uniform as well as make up and skincare kits for personal use. Your Student ID card will give you discounts on these purchases at many beauty suppliers. You will also need to purchase one textbook and a set of make up brushes that will see you throughout your career.

How are the classes structured?

Diploma of Beauty Therapy [WRB50104] Full Time

1 year | 3 days a week | Courses start in July 2008 and Feb 2009

Our Diploma is widely recognised as being one of the best in Australia. The Diploma is the highest qualification you can get and will provide you with the skills, knowledge and experience to be a great beauty therapist and a future leader in our industry.

Our Diploma covers everything in Certificate III and Certificate IV including skin diagnosis, facials, make up, waxing, tanning, manicures and pedicure. It also provides you with training in advanced facials, body treatments, permanent hair removal, a range of holistic treatments as well skills in business, spa and salon management.

Diploma of Beauty Therapy [WRB50104] Part Time

18 months | 2 nights a week and Saturdays | Course starts in April 2008

Our part time Diploma course is identical to our full time Diploma course, only spread over 18 months and held after hours. This course has proven very popular with students who wish to maintain full time employment or who may have other commitments.

Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy [WRB40104] Full Time

1 year | 2-3 days a week | Courses start in July 2008 and Feb 2009

Certificate IV covers all the Certificate III subjects plus skin diagnosis, basic to advanced facials, skin biology through to cosmetic chemistry and nutrition all of which make up the essential underpinning knowledge for skin treatments. This course provides you the skills you need to become a valuable salon team member with a great career.

Certificate III in Beauty Services [WRB30104] Part Time

4 months | 2 days a week | 4 intakes a year – Feb, April, July, Oct 2008

Our Certificate III course is a great entry point into the world of skin care and beauty therapy and will give you a great foundation in the skills you’ll need to help get you working in salons as soon as possible.

You’ll learn about manicure and pedicure treatments, waxing and tanning, make up, lash and brow tinting and eyebrow shaping as well retailing and merchandising.

We’ve structured our Certificate III course so it’s as easy as possible for you to upgrade to our Diploma Course. This has a proven to be a very popular option for many of our students.

Is work experience part of the course?To help you gain all the confidence you’ll need to be successful, we also provide you with extensive work experience opportunities. Within the college our Student Salon provides you with real client experience as a part of your training. We also assist you with work experience placement within our Ella Baché salon network and David Jones stores. Added to this, many beauty salon owners and beauty therapy employers are invited to our Student Salon to experience our student treatments and end up offering work experience and part time employment to the students they meet.

The best way to judge a college is by how successful the graduates are at finding work, the quality of its educators and the reputation of the college’s owners. Can the College help me find work after I graduate? Yes. Remember over 98% of our graduates find full-time employment.

What if I have completed units of this course elsewhere, will I have to do these units again? If you already have qualifications and/or relevant work experience that can be recognised within the framework of our courses, you may be eligible for some exemptions.  So you won’t need to sit these subjects again. Please let us know if you think this might apply to you before you start your studies and you can complete an application for exception form.

Can I get youth allowance? The Ella Baché College of Skin and Beauty Therapy is a fully accredited Registered Training Authority (RTO) and as such all of our students who study full-time are eligible for Austudy and Abstudy. Once you have enrolled in your course you can apply to centrelink by going to www.centrelink.gov.au click on online services and make a claim online.

Where is the College located? The college is ideally located on one floor of

Berry Square
in the centre of North Sydney’s CBD. With a range of other schools and colleges in the area, we are also in the heart of North Sydney’s educational hub. Buses to the suburbs and city are close by and North Sydney station is just a 5 minute walk away.

When are the term breaks or holidays throughout the courses?The school year is divided into 4 terms and each term is usually 10 weeks in length and this is followed by a 1 week break. The term breaks are set at the same dates as the NSW secondary school breaks so you still take holidays with your family.
