5 Minutes with Stevie Ford, Ella Baché College Student

Are you thinking about starting your career in Beauty Therapy? At Ella Baché College, our students work alongside industry leaders to learn what different skins love and how to apply this to their clients to come. This hands-on approach is just one of the many things our students love about their course and we’ve caught up with current student Stevie for more on her experience.

What area were you working in prior to starting your course?

Prior to enrolling at Ella Baché I was working full-time in high-end fashion retailing. This experience gave me an insight into retail, fashion and beauty. While I did enjoy fashion, it was beauty that I grew to become more interested in. It became clear that it was time to make a career change so I then spent a lot of time researching and talking to people about all the different options within the beauty industry.

Why did you choose Ella Baché college?

I chose Ella Baché College as I had known some other students who had studied there and they always spoke highly about their experience. I attended the open day at the end of last year and I realised Ella Baché was where I needed to be - especially knowing there was so much hands on learning and that I would walk out of the end of my studies being fully qualified to enter the beauty industry with enough experience. I hadn't previously used any Ella Baché products but was looking forward to working with a renowned Australian brand during my studies.

What in your previous career experience has prepared you for this course?

I think that I have been able to apply what I learnt about building relationships with clients and how to improve my understanding of product knowledge. This helps me to be more effective when delivering a treatment to each individual client. The Ella Baché philosophy is about personalised skincare and building that rapport with a client is a crucial part in delivering a personalised treatment.

How are you completing your course? (online, on-campus)

I am studying on-campus at the Artarmon campus in Sydney. I am there three days per week studying with a group of students where we learn both theory and practice. When we are learning we get to practice on each other which is a great way to get immediate feedback as well. Studying three days a week allows me to keep working in some part-time roles while studying. It has been a bit of an adjustment going back to studying after working full time, however I love the flexibility I have with only needing to be on campus for three days.

What has been one of your best experiences throughout the course?

I have really enjoyed the hands on work learning how to complete facials. This is the area I am most passionate about, learning how to improve and rejuvenate the skin’s texture and appearance. Being able to see the differences in someone’s skin either through one treatment, or a series, has been very rewarding as well.

What are your goals after completion of your course?

I would love to own my own salon one day. In the short term, my studies and one of my part-time jobs working in a salon are helping me get towards my goal. The experience in a salon is invaluable – I can put everything I’m learning into practice straight away.
