Diploma of Beauty Therapy

Start your bright new career in beauty with SHB50115 - Diploma of Beauty Therapy that will see you become a professionally qualified beauty therapist with skills that are recognised. At Ella Baché College, we offer a well-respected beauty therapy course that gives you an education in the fundamentals of the skin, paired with all-important practical and diagnostic skills. This hands-on approach allows you to be confident and proficient in performing a wide range of specialised facial and body treatments.

What will you learn?


Conduct client consultations and perform professional salon services


Apply a solid understanding of skin biology, anatomy and physiology of major body systems in designing suitable treatments according to the skin type and skin conditions of the client


Recommend appropriate products for treatments utilising your knowledge of cosmetic chemistry


Perform a range of body treatments with the latest equipment and different massage techniques including Swedish, lymphatic, stone massage, reflexology and Indian head massage


Perform specialised professional treatments such as electrolysis and diathermy safely and effectively


Blend and apply a range of aromatherapy oils for aromatherapy massage and various beauty treatments


Perform a range of professional waxing treatments hygienically and with minimum discomfort to the client


Provide professional lash and brow treatments


Provide nail treatments including manicure and pedicure


Design and apply makeup to enhance facial features


Apply small business knowledge in operating and managing salon business

Course outline

To achieve your SHB50115 Diploma of Beauty Therapy qualification, 25 Units of Competency must be completed. The 25 Units of Competency are comprised of 13 Core Units, 10 General Elective Units plus 3 Specialisation Elective units. At the commencement of Trimester 3, students will be invited to select one Specialisation Stream.

2.5 days per week / per term

10 days per term minimum(Minimum of 8 days practical and 2 days assessment per term. 30 days total for the course.)

Practical training & assessment

On-campus (During 2.5 days per week / per term)

- Supervised on-campus practical sessions (24 days minimum in course); and​

- Supervised on-campus assessment sessions (6 days minimum in course); and​

- Supervised training in student’s workplace if employed in a Beauty Salon; or​

- Unsupervised practice on family and friends; or​

- Supervised training during work placement/experience.​

Note: Students are required to complete other assessments on top of the 2 days per term/6 days total for course, on campus. These other assessments can be completed remotely or on campus. ​

Students completing assessments remotely will be required to have appropriate equipment, product and video conference hardware (PC with camera and microphone).​

The days are given as guidelines, some students will take more or less time​.

The SHB50115 Diploma of Beauty Therapy is a VET Student Loans-approved course:

  • A VSL is a loan made to Students by the Commonwealth Government
  • A VSL loan will not be approved for students who do not meet eligibility requirements
  • Students apply for a VSL through the Commonwealth’s Electronic Commonwealth Assistance Form (eCAF). The College cannot apply for a VSL on behalf of the Student.
  • The loan will remain a personal debt of the Student until it is repaid to the Commonwealth.
  • The Commonwealth Government applies a 20% fee to each Student that applies for a VSL. The amount of HELP debt the Student will accrue if the Student receives the $10,000 maximum amount of VSL for the Course will be $12,000.
  • A VET Student Loan gives rise to a HELP debt that continues to be a debt due to the Commonwealth until it is repaid
  • Students may wish to seek independent financial advice before applying for a VSL
