This qualification is for those who wish to be or are employed as beauty therapists in beauty salons, cosmetic clinics, medi-spas and day spas, to provide consultation with clients to provide beauty advice, recommend beauty treatments and services, and sell retail skin-care and cosmetic products. In this qualification you will learn how to provide a broad range of beauty therapy treatments and services including:

  • Facial treatments
  • Body massage and treatments
  • Hair removal
  • Lash and brow treatments
  • Nail and make-up services
  • Electrolysis and Diathermy
  • Aromatherapy

Practical Training and Assessment Labs - EdFlex™ Students

We recommend EdFlex™ students participate in at least 126 hours (7 hours per week) of Practical Training and Assessment each 18-week Trimester to ensure competence. The 126 hours of Practical Training may be comprised of any combination of the below 6 options:

  1. Supervised Training (only) on-campus at the weekly Training LAB sessions
  2. Practical Assessment (only) at Student Salon
  3. Supervised training in the student’s workplace or during their 150 hours of work experience
  4. Unsupervised practice at home on family and friends
  5. Attendance at the 5-day Intensive Practical Training and Assessment LABS
  6. Attendance in the On-Campus classes (Sydney only)
     

Course Entry Requirements

There are no academic entry requirements into this qualification. All applicants into this qualification will need the physical capability to perform the role of a beauty therapist including the ability to stand for lengthy periods of time.
 

Equipment and Facilities

Equipment and facilities used for practical training, applications and assessments will be provided by the College. All students are required to wear the Ella Baché student uniform when On-Campus and participating in Practical Workshops Off-Campus. A uniform will be provided to each student at the first practical training session attended after first census date. Any additional uniform items will need to be purchased from the College.

Students must agree to have beauty therapy treatments practiced on themselves by other students as part of both their training and assessment.

Model clients for Practical Training LABS and Assessments

Students may be required to source a model for the 1-day LABS & 5 Day Intensive LABS depending on numbers that are registered for each LAB session.
 

Qualification Requirements and Delivery Schedule

Successful completion of the SHB50115 Diploma of Beauty Therapy, will provide graduates with 25 units of competency - 13 core units and 12 electives (comprised of 9 mandatory electives and 3 set elective units from one of two specialisation streams). Academic Pathways

Ella Baché College has had an articulation pathway agreement with Victoria University since 2009. This agreement allows for 8 credit points transfer from the SHB50115 Diploma of Beauty Therapy, where complete the Electrolysis/Diathermy elective stream,, which is equivalent to the first year of the 4-year Bachelor of Dermal Science degree.
