Skin Diagnosis

Known in the industry as the "Skincare Experts", we believe that successful skincare prescriptions come from our Beauty Therapists thorough knowledge and understanding of the skin.

Your personalised "Blueprint"

Your personal diagnosis using the Woodslamp Camera or Skin Scanner is the key to the Ella Baché approach to skincare prescription. This unique diagnostic system is based on the woodslamp blue light, which distinctly fluoresces different skin conditions such as dry skin patches, excess oil, and pigmentation.

These diagnostic tools are an ideal and accurate way to visually measure improvements in your skin through your course of facial treatments.

The following are examples of unique skins Ella Baché therapists have diagnosed.

Diagnosis: Normal Skin

Skin Concerns: Dry to normal and normal to oily

Normal skin has perfect oil flow. Cells are healthy and blood circulation is good. Normal skin looks soft, moist, plump, dewy and has a healthy glow and colour.

  1. Normal skin has perfect oil flow. Under a Woodslamp this is highlighted as a fine, light pink haze over the T-zone and can extend out on to the cheeks.
  2. A normal skin will look and feel soft and plump with slightly visible pores down the T-zone.
Diagnosis: Dry Skin

Skin Concerns: Dry to normal and true dry

A result of an under active sebaceous gland, means there’s a lack of oil. It is characterised as very fine, delicate, thin skin with pores that are very small to invisible and tends to wrinkle easily leading to superficial lines. Oil acts as a natural barrier against moisture loss and because dry skin lacks oil it tends to be dehydrated - this can hasten the ageing process. Dry skin is aggravated by exposure to the sun, wind, heat and improper skincare.

  1. A dry skin appears as a matt white colour under the Woodslamp, with an obvious lack of pink anywhere on the skin. The matt white appearance will extend over the entire face.
  2. To look at in normal light, dry skin appears very fine, delicate, thin skin with pores that are very small to invisible and tends to wrinkle easily leading to superficial lines.
Diagnosis: Oily Skin

Skin Concerns: Normal to oily and excessively oily

Oily skin is a hereditary condition that develops due to overactive sebaceous glands. Oily skin is shiny, thick and firm in appearance with open pores and feels oily to the touch. Pores are enlarged, usually due to over production of oil and oil trapped in the pilosebaceous follicle. Oily skins can look dirty when neglected Papules, pustules, blackheads and congestion may be present, usually on the chin or forehead

  1. A condensed pink haze can highlight an unbalanced oil flow on the skin, emphasizing excess oil production.
  2. Bacteria or infection is commonly associated to an unbalanced oil flow and appears as yellow dots mixed among the pink.
  3. To look at an oily skin away from the Woodslamp, it can appear shiny, thick and firm with visible open pores on the T-zone and/or all over the face.
