In honor of Mother’s Day we sit down with CEO, Pippa Hallas and talk all things motherhood, the infamous juggle and the importance of connection and community when it comes to raising your tribe.
Can you describe what motherhood is to you?
Motherhood is the definition of multitasking, juggling and sometimes stretching yourself thinner than you thought imaginably possible. The mental load is real, and there is always that question lurking in the back of your mind ‘Am I doing enough? Is this right?’. But, then I stop and remind myself that I am – we all are, we are teaching our children and learning along the way, and that crazy, glorious mess that surrounds us, it doesn’t last long.
“I remember reading somewhere that we only have 18 Christmas’s that are children are still ‘young’, and that hit me, that’s not a very big number, and it really does ring true, those days might feel bloody long, but the years, they are lightening fast.”
What would be 3 words that describe you as a mother?
One thing that first comes to mind is routine. No matter how busy my day is I always make sure I am home for story time, homework, and a run around on the beach, this is a routine I set that allowed me to have 1:1 uninterrupted time with my sons.
Next it would be the multitasker, I have grown accustomed to sending emails, working on business strategies, or sitting on important meetings all from the sidelines of soccer or football practice. Multitasking is a crucial part of not only motherhood, but parenthood, and whilst we might not feel like we are always winning, we are all out there doing our best.
Lastly, it would be the creative, my dad is an artist, and I grew up watching him not only run Ella Baché but also paint and create. I have always encouraged my boys to be creative, in all aspects of their lives. Lachlan, my eldest, is a sensitive soul at heart with a creative flare, whilst my youngest Darcy, he is loud, boisterous, also creative but not so much when I catch him coloring the walls with permanent marker!
You talk about the juggle; how do you manage being a CEO and a mother?
It all comes down to support, my husband and I share the load. My biggest lesson and piece of advice rolled into one is that you can’t try to do it all, it’s important to create a network of supportive people around you. There are some things you can’t do, so you need to outsource and feel okay about that, it’s all about using your time in the most effective way.
As your children grow older, what have been some key learnings along the way?
That your children will be your biggest teachers, in one way or another. They teach us patience, love, and loyalty, they are also very good at toughening us up, you become fiercely protective of them. But, above all, children are hilarious, they have no filters and often say and do whatever comes to mind.
“Motherhood can be incredibly humbling, one minute you think you’ve got it all under control, the next, it flips on its head. It all about going for the ride, and each day enjoying the little moments, in between the busy life schedules.”
What are your three must have products that give you a sense of indulgence and self-care at home?
I can’t go past our Ella Baché Intensive Extreme Regeneration Mask, it instantly reinvigorates the skin, whilst hydrating and plumping too.
We have also just launched a new superfood rich skincare range, SpirulinesLift, and the Firming Eye Cream instantly smooths and brightens the eye area which is perfect when you need to allude to that blissful 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
Lastly, my non-negotiable is SPF. Did you know Australian women are ageing 20 years faster than the rest of the world? So, rain, hail or shine and throughout all the seasons make sure you are covered, it is your number one anti-ager. My must have, is Superfluid Great 50+ enriched with antioxidants it not only protects the skin but also nourishes, and with an emollient tint your skin is left glowing!
